Hey everybody.
Thanks for visiting our website, which is still a work in progress. Thanks for doing what you do to create and support heavy music in Denver and throughout Colorado - this page was designed to cater to you, and wouldn’t exist without you.
We wanted to provide just a short background on why we’re doing what we’re doing here, and lay out the vision for you.
The idea for Heavy303 came about for completely selfish reasons. One of our creators, obviously a fan of metal, hardcore, punk, and many of the other why-the-fuck-are-there-so-many genres, was looking for a consolidated place to find out about local bands, shows, events, people and more. Lots of pages online do a great job of advertising shows, but it’s hard to dig through Instagram/venue websites to find an event, it’s hard to know from a poster if that’s a show you’d like to attend, and it’s hard to keep your shit together enough to remember when and where that show is (unless that’s just us). We thought, “What if there was one website with a dedicated calendar of heavy concerts, a description of what kind of music will be playing, and a link to buy tickets right then and there?” This was the basis upon which we started this page, and this is our bread and butter for now.
In the process of creating our website and IG page, we rediscovered something we already knew about our local scene: there are some fucking heavy hitters among us. Across the board - from thrash, to doom, to skate-punk and everything in between - this state is filled with incredible talent and phenomenal bands that we believe don’t get the recognition they deserve. With this in mind, and as long as we were already making a website, we wanted a dedicated section focused on spotlighting bands, venues, and everything else that goes into making our scene what it is. That’s what we want this “blog” section to become. (Note: we’d love to profile your band - hit us up!)
We want to emphasize that we hope this page will be guided by our state’s heavy music fans and by the bands themselves. You’re the ones who have cultivated such a sick scene (we promise we’re done saying “scene”), so you’re the ones who should be guiding the page. We want to make sure we’re not stepping on any toes, or portraying ANYBODY in a way in which they don’t want to be portrayed. If we’re being assholes, please tell us. If our page says something about you or your band or venue that rubs you the wrong way, it will be deleted. If you have ideas on how to improve this page, let us know - God knows we’re running out already.
At the end of the day, if our page gets one or two extra people to a show, or helps one or two people find a new favorite local band, we’ll consider this project a success. And if not, at least we’ll know where and when the shows are.
Thanks for checking us out - don’t hesitate to send us feedback at 303.heavy@gmail.com or on IG @heavy.303
